Pastor's Message
An Invitation to Worship…An Opportunity to Serve
The year was 1975. Gerald Ford was President. Jimmy Hoffa vanished into thin air. Earl and Kultilda Woods were naming their new baby…Eldrick “Tiger” Woods while Bill Gates and Paul Allen were naming their new baby…“Microsoft.” The Vietman War had ended and “Operation Babylift” had begun. In the midst of an economic recession, a political oppression and a psych-osocial depression, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes called America to a new level of consciousness…
Wake up everybody; no more sleeping in bed
No more backward thinking, time for thinking ahead
The world has changed so very much from what it used to be
There is so much hatred, war and poverty…
The world won’t get no better, if we just let it be
The world won’t get no better, we gotta change it,
The world won’t get no better, we gotta change it,
yeah, just you and me.
In the 12th chapter of Acts, there is an interesting pericope detailing the deliverance of Peter from prison. The Bible tells us that while Peter was asleep in jail, an angel came to his cell, summoned him from his sleep and safely led him through the jail to freedom. We are told by the writer that through all of this, Peter was awake, but he was not aware of what was going on. Only after he was safely out of the prison did he realize that it was the Lord who had provided the means for his deliverance. As followers of Him who has the nail-scarred hands, we have been charged by God to wake up our sleeping communities, lead them to places of safety and help them to become aware that although their deliverance comes from God; it comes through His church.
Wake up all the builders, time to build a new land
I know we can do it, if we all lend a hand
The only thing we have to do is to put it in our minds
Surely things will work out; they do every time
The world won’t get no better, if we just let it be
The world won’t get no better, we gotta change it,
The world won’t get no better, we gotta change it,
yeah, just you and me.
The words of this song serve as a call to action for the Church of God. Three decades later, the words of Harold Melvin are just as poignant.
We are deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of persons in our church and community by demonstrating the love of Christ through programs of Worship, Instruction, Fellowship and Evangelism. We are committed to developing programs that minister to the needs of our church family, as well as those who are in the greater Chillicothe Community. We invite you to join us as we seek to make a difference in the lives of others. We are “The Church Where People Matter.”
The world won’t get no better, if we just let it be
The world won’t get no better, we gotta change it,
The world won’t get no better, we gotta change it,
yeah, just you and me.
May all that is excellent attend your way.
Peace.
Peace.
